A new democratic upsurge marks Asia at this time. The need of the hour is new revolutionary ideas that come from, and can awaken the masses of the Indian and world's people. For this, a new social science, which rejects the West's pessimism and postmodernism is needed. This social science will have to study the Indian people on their own terms, and delve into the human psyche and sociology rather than just deterministic political economy. We publish here essays on three remarkable Indian social scientists: Brajendranath Seal, Benoy Kumar Sarkar, and D.D. Kosambi.
