We present an issue of Vishwabandhu dedicated to examining ideas of race and civilization that will be important to building a new world. For this, we turn to W.E.B. Du Bois and Rabindranath Tagore. We are living through a crisis in the world order and social system dominated by America. We believe the thinking and practice of W.E.B Du Bois and Rabindranath Tagore forms the basis of a new world order and a new kind of relationship between the world's people. We present an article on the historical ties of Du Bois to India and an article on the revolutionary character of Duke Ellington's music. We are also republishing a lecture given on Du Bois' approach to science and art by Anthony Monteiro. This issue also has an article examining the present state of the consciousness of Indians and Americans on their own freedom struggles, an article on a new peace movement in response to the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, and a collection of readings to clarify the conditions in Palestine today. We also reproduce two archival texts from W.E.B. Du Bois' papers; his tribute to Gandhi in 1948 and his essay for the 'Golden Book of Tagore' published in 1931.
